Hi everybody! Here are a couple of great websites that we have used at school, so the kids are familiar with them. Both of them are fun but really do teach skills.

Report Cards Already!

I am right in the middle of report cards for the second trimester already! It is exciting to see all of the progress the kids have made!
Last week, every student who took the spelling test got a perfect score. Wow! But even more important than one spelling test, it showed the dedication and hard work that everyone is putting forward. Trust me, it is really paying off! Congratulations on having such fantastic children! They make my day EVERY day.

Happy Valentines Day!

Thank you for sending in Valentine treats at the last minute! We really enjoyed them and had a wonderful party! We sorted, counted, and graphed colors of candy hearts, read all of the phrases on the hearts to look for this year's theme, and read a friendship book. During the party, we played Valentine's Number Bingo (thank you!), exchanged Valentine cards and had the snacks you sent! It was a great day!

Snowshoeing

Snowshoeing was so fun today!

Fridays are fun!

This afternoon we painted moons to go along with our earth and sky unit, then we headed down to third grade for reading buddies. Enjoy the videos and remember that Monday is snowshoeing, so make sure your child has boots, coat, gloves, hat, snowpants, etc.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Wow! What a busy couple of weeks! We are right in the middle of so many important concepts, including place value in math, why the seasons happen in science, and long vowels in reading. Along with those things, our class had the privilege of Mrs. Hamburgh coming in to our class today. She talked about her grandmother, who was involved in a sit-in to help African American students get books. It tied in perfectly with our discussion about Martin Luther King, Jr. today. We read a book about Dr. King and talked about prejudice. I read part of the speech to the kids before Mrs. Hamburgh came. I wish I had pictures to show you of our class with Mrs. Hamburgh acting out the sit-in, but my camera is malfunctioning! We still had a great and busy morning!

I will be in the building but out of the classroom tomorrow morning. Having a sub will allow me to read with kids one-on-one and complete the winter round of assessments. I will also be out this Friday the 22nd with a sub.

I have noticed that colds are starting to go around our class again with a lot of students complaining about head/body aches, runny noses, and coughs. We try to wash tables and use a lot of hand sanitizer, but if you notice that your child isn't feeling well, just know that it is going around our room again!

I would like to thank those of you who submitted book orders and brought us some snacks!

We're Back!

We are off and running after a great holiday break! I think we were all a little tired yesterday as we got back into the swing of things, but today, I cannot believe how much we got done! Ask your child to tell you what causes day and night. They should be able to tell you in two or three words, but then ask them to really explain it. See what they do if you give them a flashlight and a sticker!

Thank you for keeping up the hard work over break! It is exciting to see that so many students read and did daily challenges over break. I think almost half our class will complete them! Remember, first graders, you still have until the 18th to finish if you did not do it over break.
