Field Trip Success!

Thank you to all of our wonderful chaperones who were able to join us for Friday's field trip to the Museum of the Rockies! We had a very full day since we left school at 9:00 and returned at about 1:45.

Our day started off with a quick snack and then we headed straight to the planetarium show called "My Backyard," which a was a great kick-off to our upcoming unit about earth and sky. Last week we spent a day uncovering some misconceptions that we had about the sun and the moon and will continue with this science topic through January. You might encourage your child to observe what they see in the sky.

From the planetarium, we went to History Hall, where we got to see a few of the ways people used to do things like pumping water. (By the way, one group of boys said they thought it would be waaaay more fun to pump water than to just turn on the faucet...sounds like they are ready for some chores! Ha!)

From History Hall, we had a fantastic guided tour through the Enduring Peoples part of the museum. We spent almost an hour learning about Native Americans past and present. Many students have misconceptions about American Indians, and we will continue to learn more about this topic all year.

After lunch, we visited Dinosaur Hall in a hurried 30 minutes. I had not been to the museum in quite a while and loved seeing the new exhibits at least as much as the kids did. If you ever have a chance, try to see about getting a guided tour through that part of the museum since the tour guides could tell you all kinds of interesting facts!

What a day! We learned so many new things and had so much fun doing it!

Monday we are on to new star (high-frequency words), comparing and contrasting opposites, measurement, learning more about earth and sky, launching writer's workshop, and holiday program rehearsals. Let me assure you, there is never a dull moment!!
